About University

Tatar State University of Humanities and Education is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the Russian Federation. It was awarded “The best Teacher Training University of the Soviet Union” title in 1978. It became a laureate of all-Russian competition among higher education institutions of the Russian Federation in the nomination “The Project of the year” in 2005. The University was also awarded the golden medal “European Quality” in the nomination “100 best Universities of Russian Federation”.

The University graduates comprise the brightest pages of its history. There are thousands of prominent scholars, Honored teachers, world-known scientists and writers, workers of culture, state people, high-rank military officers, famous sportsmen.

University has more than 14 000 students. The academic staff enrolls over 800 people, including over 90 PhDs and D. Scs, 4 academicians and over 500 assistant professors and candidates of science. There are four Dissertation Boards. 49 educational programs are realized on 7 enlarged groups of specialties.

The University comprises 79 divisions, including:

• the Center of Islamic and Ethnic Studies (the Volga-Ural region)

More than 130 years of University’s existence resulted in formation of scientific traditions. There are 18 scientific schools for 16 branches of science.
Within the last few years our University was recognized in the region and in Russia for well-organized campus life. TSUHE Students Committee is the coordinating authority of student self-administration.
Since 1999 TSUHE has been taking the Grand Prix and the first prizes at the interuniversity festival “Students Spring”.

Throughout 13 years TSUHE is the winner of the Olympics among Universities of the Republic of Tatarstan in 14 kinds of sport. University has been winning the spring city field-and-track relay for the last 13 years as well.

International cooperation at TSUHE is one of the major strategic concerns in the field of education.

Scientific and academic contacts with educational institutions, funds and embassies of Turkey, People’s Republic of China, France, Germany, the USA and the Islamic Republic of Iran have been established.

TSUHE has concluded several Agreements for Cooperation with educational institutions and scientific and cultural organizations of the world.

There are the Volga Regional Center of Iranian Studies, Arabic Cultural Center, Center of the Turkish Language and Culture, Center of the Tatar Language and Culture at the University.

 

International

International cooperation is one of the priorities of Tatar State University of Humanities and Education’ development strategy.
Several directions of TSUHE’s international activity are:
- participation in international events (conferences, round tables, workshops, presentations of educational programs and etc.);
- organization of international events on the premises of TSUHE;
- signing of cooperation agreements with foreign educational institutions;
- reception of delegations;
- training of foreign students;
- development of joint (double) diploma programmes.

The last 3 years are marked by significant growth of international contacts. Since 2007 we received more than 50 official delegations from foreign universities and embassies. Among them are professors from Augsburg (Germany), Washington (USA), Exeter (Great Britain), Al Jarash (Jordan), Shanghai (China), Pusan (South Korea) universities. The Republic of Turkey’s and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consuls General regularly visit university and give every support. In 2009 TSUHE started dialogue with such high-rated international educational centres as University of Cambridge ESOL Centre, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, “Saliha” Foundation for Scientific Research, Development and Environmental Studies (Tunisia), American Councils for International Education (USA), Emerald Cultural University (Ireland).
Academic mobility of our students and faculty increased in 2007-2009. We participate in international conferences, workshops, grants; TSUHE’s visiting professors work in Great Britain, Germany, France, USA, Croatia, Poland, Turkey, China and Turkmenistan. Students of Institute of Foreign Languages have access to regular language courses in China, Syria, France, Germany, Egypt, Japan.
In our turn, we invite foreign specialists to work in the Institute of Foreign Languages as native speakers.
By May 2009 TSUHE has signed 21 agreements with 14 countries: China, Yemen, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, France, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia, South Korea, USA, Costa-Rica, England and etc. University offers basic and additional educational programmes for international students including students from CIS countries. In the last 3 years University trained 424 foreign citizens: 226 students, 105 trainees in Russian Preparatory Course, 20 postgraduates, 34 exchange students. Short-term summer language courses (Tatar and Russian languages) for 37 citizens from the USA and South Korea were organised in 2007-2008.
TSUHE actively participates in the life of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan. University-based ‘Republican Centre of Linguistic Training’ was opened on the recommendation of R. Minnikhanov, the Republic of Tatarstan’s Prime Minister.
Department of Foreign Affairs to President of Tatarstan cooperates with our university. Its director T.Akulov is a member of TSUHE Board of Trustees.
The Republic of Tatarstan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Sport and Youth permanently address TSUHE in order to help with organization of foreign officials’ visits.
TSUHE is a member of Kazan’s “Euroclub” and is a head of its linguistic section. The Centre of Arabic Culture has been working in TSUHE for many years under supervision of Dr. Mohammed, the native speaker of the Arabic language. There are Centres of Farsi and Turkish. Members of TSUHE Foreign Students Association are also members of Republican Foreign Students Association. TSUHE foreign students participate in Republican, Russian and international conferences and festivals.

The work of TSUHE is recognized in the international scale. One of its recent examples is a series of concerts held by chief instructor of piano section E. Kovrikova for academic, diplomatic and cultural audience of the biggest universities in Lebanon.

Mission of the Tatar State University of Humanities and Education

The Tatar State University of Humanities and Education (TSUHE) is one of the oldest educational establishments in the Russian federation. Founded on October 24, 1876 as a teacher’s college, it was the third after St. Petersburg and Moscow college in Russia. TSUHE is a higher educational establishment with 130 years history.

The Tatar State University of Humanities and Education was founded in June 2005 on the basis of the Kazan State Teacher’s Training University.

In 1978 the institute of higher education was declared the best institute in the Soviet Union. That’s no surprise. During all its history Kazan State Teacher’s Training University aims at unity of scientific, educational and pedagogical aspects as a guarantee to successful educational activity in general.

In spring 2005 TSUHE took part in the All-Russian competition of higher educational establishments, held in St. Petersburg, where it was awarded a golden medal “European Quality”, nominated among 100 institutions of higher education in Russia and also it got the diploma of laureate in nomination “The Year Project”.

The main goal of the university team is training high-skilled, erudite, high-principled and self-possessed teachers. Realizing these tasks, university administration accomplish renewal and improvement of curriculum and programmes, subject contents, principles and methods of teaching and educational process. The university establishes new specialities, departments, introduces disciplines, necessary for training specialists, able to solve successfully present-day objectives of education and culture.

The most important trend in the activity of the university is organization of scientific and research work, creating scientific potential, possible to integrate into education and science, make the contents of studies fundamental.

Being reformed, the university is appealed to become the center of the Humanities, culture and education in the Republic of Tatarstan and beyond its bounds, to consolidate the best scientific and educational potential for training, retraining and also raising the level of specialists' in humanities skills.

Getting the state accreditation is the most important stage in the development of the university. On March 11, 2009 at the session of the accreditation board of the Federal quality surveillance office in the sphere of education and science the decision to recognize State EducationalEstablishment of the Higher Professional Education “The Tatar State University of Humanities and Education” as having state accreditation and to establish the university in the state status of institute of higher education.

The university works purposefully on introduction of the present systems for providing the quality of education. In 2008 the external audit and certification of the quality management system to correspond all-Union State Standard 9001-2001 was held. The international certification of compliance confirms correspondence of the system of quality management in TSUHE to all-Union State Standard 9001-2001 requirements in appliance to projection, development and accomplishment of secondary education, students and graduates activities as well as that in the sphere of additional education in accordance with licensing and state accreditation, in the field of scientific research and also in management of innovative projects.
In March 2009 the team of workers of TSUHE became the winner in the competition, dedicated to 60th anniversary of partnership between Russia and UNESCO. Rector of TSUHE R.R. Zamaletdinov was awarded a golden medal “Charity” by UNESCO.
